Waiting for Lightning

Danny Way. Not many names in skateboarding carry as much weight or respect, and for good reason.

Way is one of the few people who has taken something as simple as riding a plank of wood and used it to change the world. What began as a mega-ramp fantasy has blossomed into an entirely new sport, bridging the gap between skateboarding and snowboarding, and pushing the limits of what's possible using just gravity and a skateboard.

This new documentary, Waiting for..

Verizon-Comcast Mobile Deal Won't Impact Fios TV Service Competition

As Comcast preps to sell wireless service on behalf of Verizon, that landmark deal is unlikely to affect Verizon's multichannel efforts to compete with Comcast in TV, said Tricia Lynch, Director Content Strategy & Acquisition at Verizon, with CNET's senior writer Maggie Reardon interviewing her for Beet.TV. To be sure, the Comcast-Verizon pact that calls for the companies to partner on the mobile front, ups the ante, but Lynch emphasized that Verizon Fios TV service remains an independent product that will be competitive. Verizon reaches 4 million homes with its multichannel service and the service is available to 18 million customers, Lynch said. "We still have 14 million customers to win for Fios and that's our focus," she said, adding that her goal is to ensure those customers won't opt for over-the-top services instead of Fios. This segment was taped at a two-hour session at the Manhattan offices of Livestream.Daisy Whitney

Twitter Promoted Tweets: coming to an iPhone, Android app near you

Roughly two years after first launching Promoted Tweets on the desktop, Twitter is rolling out the ad revenue model to its iOS and Android apps. The feature, which places sponsored tweets in users' timelines, is already available in the mobile web version of the site. Updates to the app will bring the ads to a select number of users who already follow those businesses in the next couple of weeks, followed by a wider rollout to users who don't. #ka-ching

Seven paintings owned by Adolf Hitler uncovered in Czech Republic

What was Adolf Hitler's taste in art? Judging by a small stash of paintings he once owned and that was recently re-discovered in Europe, the dictator prefered paintings with a military theme that depicted the heroism of German soldiers. Surprised?

HTC One V unveiled: Sense 4.0 on ICS, Beats audio, 3.7-inch WVGA LCD

It's not often that device codenames serve as a direct mission statement, but with the outing of the One V, neé Primo, first-timers are getting an entry level HTC-welcome. The Ice Cream Sandwich-laden handset, running a Sense 4.0 overlay, hearkens back to the design of the Legend, with a black-ish gray, aluminum unibody, hardware keys (three for back, home and apps) and prominent chin jutting out below its Gorilla Glass-coated, 3.7-inch WVGA LCD display. The company hasn't specified the exact CPU powering the phone, but we do know it's a 1GHz single-core affair buffered by 512MB RAM. Storage-wise, you're looking at a paltry 4GB onboard that can be augmented via 25GB of Dropbox, or the available microSD slot. Beneath its sealed enclosure lies a 1,500mAh battery, quadband GSM and WCDMA radios, in addition to support for GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth. Directly benefiting from the manufacturer's recently announced ImageChip, is its 5 megapixel rear shooter, outfitted with an AF f/2.0 lens and capable of recording 720p video. There's no front-facing camera to be found on the unit, although situated as it is on the lower end of the consumer spectrum, that's to be expected. Check after the break for HTC's video preview.
